Vilcabamba (Quechua: Willkapampa,"Sacred Plain") was a city founded by Manco Inca in 1539 and was the last refuge of the Inca Empire until it fell to the Spanish in 1572, signaling the end of the Inca resistance to Spanish rule. We offer a unique large expedition, off the beaten path into the Vilcabamba region, considered as the lost Capital of the Incas during the Conquest time. Today the essence of Vilcabamba remains unchanged. A strange mixture of quiet beauty and shrouded mystery veils everywhere; and the countryside is strewn with evidence of the once powerful Inca Empire. During the adventure trek we will let you visit several Andean towns, archaeological sites and also enjoy the beautiful local flora & fauna. On the way, there are archaeological sites such as Ñusta Hispanan, classical squares lined with massive Inca stone work. Vitcos is predominately the last residence of Manco Inca. Vilcabamba trek is the entering to the heart of the jungle, mostly covered by thick overgrowth and many species of orchids and also rare birds species such as “cock-of-the-rock” (National bird of Peru). All these simple facts continue to attract the adventurous hikers to explore the most extremely landscapes surrounded by mountains covered with glaciers, remote Andean & jungle villages, where the locals still keep their ancient traditions and their daily activities to show us the real life from the lost city of the Incas.
