Nazca Lines Tours

The Nazca Lines are located in the arid Peruvian coastal plain, about 400 km south of Lima, the Nazca geoglyphs and Pampas of Jumana cover about 450 square km. The Nazca Lines, which were scratched on the surface of the earth between 500bC. and 500aD., are among the greatest enigmas of archaeology, because of its quantity, nature, size & continuity. The geoglyphs are living creatures, stylized plants & imaginary beings, as well as geometric figures several kilometers long. It's believed to have had astronomical functions and rituals too.

Highest cultural expression of the Nazca civilization.

Unique place in the world, full of mystery & mysticism, wonderful trails of huge lines and figures of spectacular perfection. Several scientific theories have been put into these lines. Some theories only explain its possible construction associated to extraterrestrials. The construction of large astronomical observatories, known as the Nazca lines were used by farmers to understand & control the weather and the agricultural cycles, regardless of its possible religious significance (Maria Reiche's theory). The Nazca Lines are located in San Jose and desert plains Socos between the kms. 419 & 465 of the Southern Panamerican Highway, with an area of 450 square kms., near the city of Nasca. These lines are drawings of several kilometers in length and approximately 0,4 & 1,1 km wide, with animals and trapezoidal shapes, some of which can only be seen in all its glory from an airplane. Figures form the spider, monkey, dog, small lizard, the hummingbird, the condor, the astronaut, among others, stand out. The Nazca Lines were first investigated scientifically by German Professor Paul Kosok, along with the Peruvian archaeologist Julio C. Tello & T. Mejía Xesspe, and the lines referred to as "the largest astronomy book in the world". Mary Scholten conducted research to determine the mathematical unit of measure that was used in its construction. Its principal investigator was Dr. Maria Reiche.

The Nazca Lines were discovered accidentally from an aircraft in 1927. At the end of the 80s, new lines were discovered. On the Panamerican Highway some observation towers can be found which allow a limited view of the lines. The only possible way to appreciate its full scope, given its large size, is flying over the area in a small plane. You can see the Nazca lines and geoglyphs over a flight of Nazca, Ica, Paracas/Pisco and Lima.
