Huchuy Qosqo & Sacred Valley itinerary:

1st day: Chinchero (Quper Valley) – Pucamarca – Huchuy Qosqo

We begin our journey by departing Cusco by car, in the direction of the Inca site known as Chinchero (3,760m). From here, we will begin trekking on the road as it curves sharply uphill to reach a pass of near 4,200 meters. We will continue to follow the trail down into the valley and towards a small community at the bottom. As we descend along the trail, you will see a beautiful green valley stretching out as far as the eye can see. Passing through the village, the trail takes us up over the second pass (4,300m) and into high open country. On the way, we will pass by the beautiful Lake Qoricocha (Golden Lake in Quechua).  We'll continue along this rustic trail, with its stellar views of the surrounding mountain ranges. Finally, we'll descend towards Huchuy Qosqo (3,650m) where we'll arrive in the late afternoon. Here, we'll set up camp and enjoy our supper underneath the great starry sky.

Hiking time: 6 hours.
Lunch and dinner included.

2nd day: Huchuy Qosqo - Lamay – Maras/Moray – Salt Mines

Huchuy Qosqo is perched above the Urubamba valley, overlooking the little town of Lamay, which is a town dedicated to agriculture & cattle raising. Huchuy Qosqo was originally an administrative center, where the Inca buildings they had made of stone & adobe were great examples of Inca style with perfectly-fitting stones. Continuing along this magnificent path, with Pitusiray looming above us, we will eventually pass a stone & adobe Inca gateway. This was the entrance to the ruins of Huchuy Qosqo for people who climbed up from the Urubamba valley down below. Our private transport will pick us up from Lamay then drive us to Maras/Moray, the Salt mines & Chinchero, where we will visit the Inca sites and also the colonial town. We'll be back in Cusco at around 6PM.

Breakfast and lunch included.

What makes this trip responsible ?

Environmental Impact

Qeros Tours Team is promoting the environment conservation in the Inca Trail & in other trails to Machu Picchu. We operate a minimal impact policy in our Peruvian trips, this can include different cook methods, packing out the group waste, and taking less invasive routes. On all of our Inca Trail trips, 100% of the group waste is removed and in many other trips, all non-biodegradable waste is removed and we never build fires at our campsites. Also, all of our guides will talk about the local environment conservation and some of the challenges facing it. All the guides work to minimize the group's impact to share their knowledge of it. Our camp staff, porters, cooks & mule wranglers where used are paid their wages and receive all accommodations, transport & food. Regular training courses about cultural and environment conservation are held for all the staff.

Community Projects

We contribute directly to many community projects in the Cusco region. Last year we have been responsible for the organization of one medical mission in the traditional village of Cacacollo located on the Sacred Valley (Pisac) giving medical attention to 1,000 locals with the cooperation of Orange Adventist Medical Mission-USA. We are promoting the local & traditional textile & handicrafts market with the local people of Cacacollo, inviting our customers to visit that market and help the economy of the locals.

Please, feel free to ask about our volunteering programs and social projects that you could visit on your trip, and if/how you could help support them.
