The Inca Trail to Machu picchu has been famous all over the world for many years. The reasons are many : The fantastic nature with valleys, snowcapped mountains and great variety of plants, birds and animals. The amazing trail itself, with its steps,bridges and tunnels, which are part of a network of 30.000 km. of roads, going from Mendoza in Argentina to the border between Ecuador and Colombia. 
Essential InfoWhat you need to take? - Original passport.
- Original International Student Identity Card (in case you have applied for a student discount).
- Optional: walking sticks or poles (rubber covers required in order not to damage archaeological sites).
- Small towel.
- Swimsuit (if you wish to go to the hot springs in Aguas Calientes).
- Cash in soles and/or US$
- A backpack with a change of clothes for the whole period of the trek.
- Rain gear (jacket and pants if available) or rain poncho (plastic ponchos can be purchased in Cusco).
- Strong footwear, waterproof trekking boots recommended.
- Sandals or jogging shoes for a higher comfort while at camp.
- Warm clothes, including jacket, fleeces. Thermal clothing is also recommended, especially for sleeping.
- Flash light/headlamp and batteries.
- Camera, films and batteries (batteries consume more quickly under cold conditions).
- Hat or cap to protect you from the sun, rain and cold.
- Sun block.
- After-sun cream or hydrating cream for face and body.
- Insect repellent – minimum recommended 20% DEET – no malaria risk has been reported.
- Handkerchiefs.
- Toilet paper.
- Snacks: biscuits, energy bars, chocolate, raw fruits, muesli, etc.
- Non-disposable canteen (Nalgene type) and water for the day morning.
- Optionally: water -sterilizing tablets in case you pick up water from streams or rivers along the route.

Is obligatory to bring your original passport with you on the trek, with the same passport number you originally made your reservation with. Otherwise you will be unable to go on the trek. photocopies are not accepted .We will buy your Inca Trail trek permit using the names & passport numbers that you send us with your trek booking application. You must bring these same passports with you to Cusco and take them on the Inca Trail. If the name or number in your passport is different from the name and number on the trek permit, the government authorities will not allow you to start the trek and you will not be entitled to a refund. If you plan to renew your passport between making the trek booking and actually starting the trek please see the section below about Frequently Asked Questions relating to passport numbers. If you make a trek booking at the student price you must send us a copy of your ISIC card at the time you pay the trek deposit. If you fail to bring your ISIC card on the trek the government authorities will not allow you to start the trek. You will not be given the opportunity to pay the extra difference in price and you will not be entitled to a refund. These are government regulations and apply to all Inca Trail tour operators. Trip Itinerary
Day 1: Cusco to Aguas Calientes
We leave from cusco at 6:00 am. in our company transportation in direction to Ollantaytambo train station, where we`ll board a Tourist Backpacker Train with reserved seats for 1 hour and 45 minutes to the kilometer 104 start of the hike. As soon as we arrive to this point we will cross a bridge to the check out point and show your passports then we will start a soft walk into the other side of the Vilcanota river the trail heads off to the right towards the ruins of Chachabamba. After a considerable time dedicated to Chachabamba, we`ll continue the trail heads south and begin climbing the mountain, before entering the cloud forest. Then the trail leaves the forest and goes west while continuing the uphill hike in open grassland. After hiking in the sun for about three hours, the trail descends into a shaded forest. This is where trekkers can enjoy a beautiful waterfall. After leaving the waterfall and forest, trekkers will arrive at the lower part of the incredible ruins of Wiñaywayna. It is recommended that you start the trek with at least 2 litres of water. After lunch in Wiñaywayna we continue through a beautiful cloud forest full of bromelias, orchids and fern trees. You will walk the last part of the trail with amazing features stone steps and tambos “resting places” and climb the 60 steps before arriving to the famous Inti Punku or Sun Gate. From this point you will be able to contemplate and observe this unique place, last 45 minutes to be on front of this wonder, where you can feel a peaceful and special feeling. Spend a short time for pictures and views then we prepare our mind for the next early morning, time to take a bus for 30 minutes to Aguas Calientes town. Day 2 : Aguas Calientes / Back to Cusco In the morning very early after a good breakfast we re-live the history and the mysterious world of the Incas, we take the first bus up at approx 06.15am and arrive at the ruins at 7:00am.(approx.) This time is still not so crowded so we can take advantage of the tranquility of this sacred site . This enigmatic city is explored for (Approx) 2 hours and their mysteries and archaeological information will be explained by our expert guide, ( you generally have approx 4 hrs extra free time and you have option to climb the Huayna Picchu mountain but depends on train departs to back Cusco. For that you need speak whit the guide. Very Important Note: The train back to Cusco departs from AGUAS CALIENTES that is the nearest village to the ruins of MACHUPICCHU. The trains depart at approximately 6:00 pm (the departs time can vary subject to the ticket availability) and you will arrive back in CUSCO for about 9:30 pm included in our standard service is the tourist bus from MACHUPICCHU down to AGUAS CALIENTES town and the train back to CUSCO and then bring you back to your hotel in CUSCO in our private transportation. We suggest that after visiting MACHUPICCHU that you take the bus down to AGUAS CALIENTES town by 14:00 at the latest (assuming train departs at 14:55) you need to be in the train station 20 minutes before of train departure and the busses depart every 15 minutes. Check whit the guide for actual times. This leaves your plenty of time at the ruins to climb WAYNA PICCHU (the mountain that you see in the background). It takes about 1 hour to climb and 45 minutes to descend. Most people however, leave from the ruins about 13:30 and returns to AGUAS CALIENTES town for lunch (at the ruins there is only one restaurant and is very expensive) there are several small restaurants in AGUAS CALIENTES to satisfy all budgets. You may also whish pay to the towns famous thermal springs which feel great after having completed the SALKANTAY TREK. (Entrance to the hot springs coast about $3 dollars allows 2 hours to really enjoy them. |
